Gombe Emir Hails Governor Inuwa’s Livestock Revolution, Economic Transformation

The Emir of Gombe, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, CFR, has commended the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for its strategic investments in livestock development and economic infrastructure, describing the interventions as a visionary model capable of repositioning Gombe State as a major livestock and agribusiness hub in Nigeria.

The Emir spoke during an inspection tour of key livestock and economic development projects being implemented by the Gombe State Government through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project.

At the Gombe Agro-Livestock Development Zone, the royal father inspected several ongoing projects, including the ultramodern abattoir, international livestock, grains and timber markets, as well as the inland dry port.

He described the development of the integrated markets as a timely response to population growth and changing economic realities, recalling that the Gombe grains market had served the people for about a century.

According to him, while the traditional market had played an important role in the state’s commercial life for generations, expanding population and economic activities had made the development of modern, purpose-built facilities imperative.

The Emir said the integrated markets would modernise commerce, facilitate trade and create new opportunities for businesses and residents, while the concentration of complementary economic activities within one development zone would strengthen the entire value chain.

He particularly commended the ultramodern abattoir, noting that local processing of livestock and agricultural products would promote value addition and reduce the economic losses associated with transporting live animals over long distances.

The monarch said processing livestock in the state would enable Gombe to retain a greater share of the economic value generated from its livestock resources, while creating opportunities for employment, enterprise development and investment.

He also welcomed the inclusion of the grains and livestock feed markets, timber market and inland dry port, describing the combination as an important foundation for expanding trade, processing, logistics and export activities.
