The Gombe State First Lady, Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya, has flagged off the 2025 Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) with the theme: “Unite to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.”
The campaign was launched at Pantami Stadium, Gombe, after which the First Lady led an outreach visit to the Zainab Bulkachuwa Women and Children Maternity, Da’awa Orphanage Home and Bege Orphanage Home in Tumfure.
In her remarks, Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya described gender-based violence as a harmful and destructive practice that threatens the fabric of society.
She urged members of the public to remain alert, speak out, and work together to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to protecting every citizen, especially the most vulnerable.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Asma’u Mohammed Iganus, announced that the campaign team will tour all local government areas to sensitize communities on the dangers of gender-based violence.
She stressed the need for collective action and emphasized that offenders must be held accountable.
Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs, Mr. Edward Yerima, commended the First Lady and the ministry for their dedication to public enlightenment.
He encouraged residents not to conceal cases of GBV and urged parents to be vigilant in protecting their children.
Representatives of the visited orphanage homes, Malam Muhammad Lawan of Da’awa Orphanage and Mr. Polycarp Yousuf Degri of Bege Orphanage, expressed profound appreciation to the First Lady for the visit, describing it as the first of its kind and a gesture that brings hope and encouragement to the children.
