He also commended the president for demonstrating commitment towards getting Nigeria to achieve a net zero emission by 2060 in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement which is a legally binding international treaty on Climate Change. The council is charged with the responsibility to drive implementation of Nigeria’s Climate Change Agenda.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya, in a statement issued by his director general, press affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, described the appointment of Dr Dahiru by Buhari “as a well deserved one considering his pedigree as a thorough-bred environmental resources management expert, forester, seasoned academic and highly cerebral figure with impeccable footprints in the Climate Change policy drive and implementation at both national and international levels.”
Governor Inuwa recalled Dahiru’s role as the pioneer lead of Nigeria’s Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) Programme and as the country’s lead negotiator for the Agriculture, Forest and Other Land Use, AFOLU, sector under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, UNFCCC, noting that in both assignments, the new DG had distinguished himself and proven his worth.

He expressed confidence that the Dan Masanin Keffi will pilot the affairs of the National Climate Change Council well considering his experience and remarkable trajectory as the National Project Coordinator for the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, (NEWMAP) and the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) Project, both financed by the World Bank and both of which Gombe State has since aligned with.
