Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has embarked on an official visit to Malaysia as part of efforts to strengthen educational, cultural and investment partnerships between Gombe State and the Southeast Asian country.

This was contained in a statement yesterday by the governor’s director-general on Press Affairs, Isma’ila Uba Misilli. He said the visit underscores the state government’s commitment to human capital development and sustainable growth and precedes the conferment of an honorary doctorate degree on the governor by Lincoln University College, Malaysia, in recognition of his leadership and support for education.

Lincoln University College, in partnership with the Gombe State government, has established a campus in Kumo, Akko local government area, expanding access to quality higher education.

As part of activities ahead of the conferment ceremony, Governor Yahaya was hosted to a special luncheon by the Nigerian High Commission in Malaysia, where he was received by the Chargé d’Affaires and Acting High Commissioner of Nigeria to Malaysia, Ambassador Sani Danlami.

During the interaction, the Governor briefed the High Commission on the progress recorded in the establishment and operations of the Lincoln University campus in Gombe, describing the initiative as a strategic investment in education and skills development.

He expressed appreciation to the High Commission for the hospitality accorded to his delegation and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to the people of Gombe State.

A major highlight of the visit was the Governor’s engagement with Gombe State students studying in Malaysia. Governor Yahaya commended the students for their dedication to academic excellence and urged them to remain focused, disciplined, and resilient in pursuit of their goals, encouraging them to serve as worthy ambassadors of Gombe State and Nigeria and also made a cash donation to support their academic needs.

Speaking earlier at a welcome dinner hosted by the leadership of Lincoln University Malaysia, Governor Inuwa Yahaya reiterated that education, skills acquisition and human capital development are the core objectives of the Gombe–Lincoln University partnership.

He noted that the collaboration is designed to expand access to quality higher education, build relevant skills and prepare a workforce capable of driving sustainable socio-economic development in the state.
