In collaboration with the Sasakawa Africa Association, the Gombe State government has distributed pre-season farming inputs to farmers in the state to boost wet season farming and enhance food security.
The event, held at the Gombe State Agricultural Development Project premises, was attended by the state deputy governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, who represented Governor Inuwa Yahaya.
The deputy governor commended the association for the distribution, describing it as a significant event touching the state economy’s food production, distribution, and supply.
He highlighted the state government’s efforts to improve agriculture, which included fertiliser distribution, mechanised farming, recruitment of extension workers, and provision of seedlings.
Also, the state commissioner for agriculture, Barnabas Malle, applauded the governor for his passion in supporting agriculture, evident in the early procurement of fertiliser and distribution.
The special adviser to the governor on donor agencies, Ishaku Babayo, appreciated the Sasakawa Africa Association for the intervention and assured them of continued government support.
Earlier, the country director and Gombe State coordinator of Sasakawa Africa Association explained that the programme aims to introduce improved seed variety and modern farming techniques to farmers for increased productivity and efficiency.
