Gombe State government has warned school administrators and education officials against diverting materials for teaching and learning in the state.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya gave the warning during the inauguration and distribution of operational vehicles, ICT equipment, textbooks, sports items and school bags to schools, Local Education Authorities (LEAs) and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Gombe.

The governor, represented by the commissioner for Education, Prof. Aisha Umar Maigari, warned that sanctions would be imposed on anyone found misusing the items.

Maigari emphasised that the materials were strictly for educational purposes and not for personal use.

She added that any official found diverting or misusing the items would face disciplinary action, urging education secretaries and school heads to ensure proper utilisation and timely deployment.

“These items are not for personal use and sanctions will be implemented on anyone that misuses them.

“The bulk of the work is in your court to ensure proper delivery and timely use for planning and improved learning outcomes,” she said.

Maigari also noted that tablets would be deployed to support monitoring and enhance data-driven management as the state transitions from paper-based administration to digital systems.

Earlier, the Director of Procurement at Gombe SUBEB, Maina Adam, said the distributed items include two Hilux vehicles for monitoring, 11 motorcycles for supervision, ICT equipment, sports materials, exercise books and textbooks.

He explained that the benefiting schools would receive the materials directly to avoid delays and ensure immediate use in classrooms.

Similarly, the UBEC State coordinator, Ibrahim Jika, who represented the executive secretary of the commission, warned that the materials must not be stored in offices but were meant for learners.

In his remarks, the executive chairman of Gombe SUBEB, Prof. Esrom Toro Jokthan, expressed appreciation to the state government for prioritizing basic education, noting that the distribution would strengthen monitoring and improve teaching and learning across schools.
