Gombe State branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has joined forces with top government officials, including the deputy governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, in a special tree-planting campaign to combat the effects of climate change in the state.
The initiative held at the weekend brought together key stakeholders such as commissioners and environmental agencies, and was part of the state’s commitment to climate action and environmental sustainability.
The deputy governor highlighted the urgent need for environmental stewardship, urging individuals and institutions to plant and protect trees to mitigate deforestation, desertification, and extreme weather conditions increasingly affecting the region.
The branch secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Gombe Chapter, at the tree planting event, reaffirmed the organisation’s dedication to supporting local and global climate efforts.
In addition to the campaign, the officials also took part in the finals of the Inter-Security Football Competition, an event organised to foster unity among security agencies while raising awareness about environmental protection and peaceful coexistence.
The two events, which combined grassroots engagement with high-level advocacy, work in synergy with NRCS and the state government institutions to promote environmental consciousness.
