Gombe State Ministry of Works, Housing, and Transportation in collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has initiated steps to tackle the growing menace of cable theft and other criminal activities that threaten the state’s public infrastructure development.
This followed a meeting between the Commissioner for the ministry, Engr. Usman Maijama’a Kallau and the Commandant of the NSCDC, Gombe State Command, Jibril Idris, on Monday.
During the courtesy visit, Kallau pledged the ministry’s support to the NSCDC in safeguarding critical public assets.
“The menace of government cable theft and other criminal activities undermines our infrastructure development efforts. We are fully committed to supporting the NSCDC in its mandate to protect public assets and ensure the safety of our state,” he stated.
The commissioner lauded the NSCDC’s efforts in safeguarding critical national infrastructure while decrying the economic toll of criminal activities on state projects.
In his remarks, Commandant Idris emphasised the importance of inter-agency collaboration in addressing security threats.
He said, “By working together, we can more effectively combat vandalism, safeguard critical infrastructure, ensure smooth execution of our mandates, and build a safer, more investor-friendly Gombe.”
The meeting also highlighted the broader economic impact of secured infrastructure.
According to the officials, when public projects were protected, contractors can operate without fear, investors gain confidence, and citizens enjoy uninterrupted services.
They noted that the collaboration was a coordinated approach between the state government and security agencies to ensure that the developmental agenda is not derailed by criminal activities.
