Sokoto State governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has inaugurated the Ultramodern North West University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto, a significant milestone for the institution founded by Senator Aliyu Wamakko.
The hospital, the first of its kind in the North West geopolitical zone, was formally approved by the Federal Executive Council in May this year.
At the inauguration ceremony, Governor Aliyu expressed the state government’s commitment to partnering with North West University to enhance quality healthcare delivery across Sokoto State.
He emphasised that the new hospital would serve as a beacon of hope, reducing the community’s over dependence on Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching, Sokoto, for health care admissions and minimizing medical tourism.
Governor Aliyu praised Senator Wamakko, acknowledging his monumental contributions that have paved the way for significant advancements in healthcare services.
Senator Wamakko, the founder and proprietor of the North West University, commended Governor Aliyu for his role as a silent achiever in various sectors.
The senator also announced plans to admit medical students by the next academic calendar and the establishment of a postgraduate school at the university.
Professor Mukhtar Umar Bunza, the vice chancellor of North West University, expressed gratitude to the Federal Executive Council for granting a full-scale license to the institution.
The ceremony witnessed an inspection of various sections of the hospital, where Governor Aliyu and Senator Wamakko were accompanied by the CMAC of the hospital, Dr. Lawal Bello.
