As the people of Nupe marked their day with prayers yesterday, Niger State governor, Mohammed Bago, reiterated the need for them to always maintain peace and unity to achieve the desired goal of a progressive and sustainable future.
In a statement, the governor congratulated the Etsu Nupe and chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar and the entire people of Nupe Kingdom on the special occasion.
The governor identified the Nupe day celebration as an important event for the Nupe speaking people as it reflects their rich cultural history, traditions and the immense contributions to societal growth and the overall development of Nigeria through the prominent roles played by Nupe sons and daughters both within and outside the shores of the nation.
Bago reaffirmed the commitment of his administration and acknowledged the critical role played by culture and traditional institutions in maintaining peaceful co-existence among people of different background, underlying the greatness and oneness of Nigeria.
The governor who is also the Turakin Nupe used the platform to encourage the Nupes and other tribes in general to imbibe the spirit of love among one another, and added that the Nupe day celebration provided for reflection on values of unity and respect for constituted authority.
He also urged Nupe people to continue to remain hard working and strive for excellence which has made them stand out different among equals.
The governor also reaffirmed the unwavering support of the Niger State government in bringing together people of diverse backgrounds and fostering peace which he said remained one of the priorities of his administration.
He appreciated the role of traditional rulers in the state under the leadership of the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar in the critical role of promoting peace, harmony and stability across Nupe land and the state as a whole.
