Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has mourned the death of Alhaji Shehu Yahaya Jalam, Permanent Secretary, Special Services, Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), who died during the 2026 Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia.

The late permanent secretary reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday, May 17, 2026, in Makkah after a brief illness while participating in the pilgrimage.

Governor Bala Mohammed, in a condolence message issued on Sunday through his media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, said he received news of the death with deep sorrow and sadness.

The governor described the deceased as a dedicated, loyal, and hardworking public servant who committed his life to the service of Bauchi State and its people.

According to him, Alhaji Shehu Yahaya Jalam played significant roles in the successful coordination of previous Hajj operations and several other sensitive government assignments.

“His passing is a great loss not only to his family and colleagues, but also to the entire Bauchi State Government and the wider community who benefited from his commitment, humility, and strong sense of duty,” the governor stated.

The statement added that funeral prayers for the deceased would be conducted later on Sunday after the Zuhur prayer at the Holy Mosque of the Ka’aba in Makkah.
