Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has charged journalists to be objective and balanced in their reportage of events to avoid misinformation.
Buni made the appeal after receiving an award of excellence as the “Most Media-friendly Governor” by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) during an interactive session with journalists at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Damaturu.
Governor Buni, who described journalists as the backbone of any society, said his administration holds them in high esteem and would continue to work towards providing an enabling environment for them to practice their profession with dignity.
He also pledged his administration’s commitment to ensuring improved welfare and a congenial working environment for journalists in the state.
The governor called on journalists to adhere to the ethics of the profession in disseminating information to the public and continue to explore more projects executed by this administration across the state.
He further urged journalists in the state to enlighten the citizens on good policies and programmes of the government such as the achievements recorded in water, market, healthcare, education, electricity and others.
Governor Buni approved the immediate extension of transmission time for the Yobe State Broadcasting Corporation (YBC) to 10pm in keeping with his administration’s efforts at information dissemination.
