In the spirit of Eid-El-Kabir, the Akwa Ibom State government yesterday played host to the leaders of the Muslim community in the state, admonishing them to imbibe religious harmony and peaceful coexistence in the state.
Governor Umo Eno used the occasion to highlight the significance of Eid-El-Kabir, saying “it is a feast of sacrifice which signifies obedience and submission to the will of God.”
Eno, who was represented by his deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, acknowledged the contributions of members of the Muslim community to the socio-economic development of Akwa Ibom State.
He also expressed appreciation to the community supporting him during the last elections.
In his remarks, the chairman of the Arewa community in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Emmanuel Ogbole, described the governor as a man of his word and thanked him for identifying with the Muslim community in the state during the Sallah festivities.
The highlight of the event was the donation of various gift items including bags of rice, rams, and cows among others, to the community to share in the spirit of the season.
