The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has reacted angrily to a publication being circulated on social media alleging Governor Umo Eno, and the party, had a session of secret celebrations over President Bola Tinubu’s certificate issues at the University of Chicago, United States, in the ongoing Presidential election case with former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

Addressing Journalists in Uyo, the State capital on Wednesday, the Publicity Secretary of the party in Akwa Ibom, Comrade Borono Bassey, denied the allegation, describing it as a blatant lie deliberately cooked by mischief makers in order to generate animosity and bad blood with the obvious intention of soiling the existing cordial relationship between the State and the Federal Government led by President Tinubu.

Urging the people to disregard the insinuation as a piece of fake news aimed stoking the embers of political hatred which Governor Eno, had been trying to douse in the current political dispensation, Bassey, who spoke on behalf of the State PDP Chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan, urged aggrieved opposition to bury party sentiments and join hands in the ongoing transformation process in the State.

He said: “The attention of the PDP in Akwa Ibom State has been drawn to an obvious fake news item being circulated on social media, alleging that the Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Leader of the PDP, Pastor Umo Eno, was secretly celebrating Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s efforts in exposing President Tinubu’s alleged fake certificate:

“The matter which is the subject of the fake news is in Court, and therefore, Subjudice. By that very fact, neither the Governor or the Peoples Democratic Party at the state level is competent to comment on it.

“The Governor, as a law – abiding citizen, who believes in the supremacy of the law, has tremendous respect for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Alhaji Bola Tinubu, the PDP whose platform Pastor Umo Eno, was elected as Governor, and the Presidential candidate of the Party, His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

“The Governor of Akwa Ibom State is not a party on record in the suit referred to in this fabricated rumour, and therefore, can only await the judgement of the Court, and he will join in the usual respectful and deferential chorus of “As the Court pleases!!”

“We urge well meaning Nigerians to ignore the ill-intentioned attempt to drag the Governor of Akwa Ibom State and the State Chapter of our great party, the PDP into a matter that is undergoing the processes of law.”
