Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has approved payment of N70,000 national minimum wage to workers on the state and local government payrolls in Adamawa state.

The State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen shortly after a closed-door meeting on Monday with the governor in Yola.

He said state government workers will start receiving their salaries with the new minimum wage in August 2024, while their counterparts at the local government level will benefit in September.

Mr Fashe explains that the template to be used is the consequential adjustment table that was used in 2019, pending the release of the table from the National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission.

“Whatever the worker was getting as the present national minimum wage of N32,000 as it applies to Adamawa State, that same will be applied in terms of percentages in implementation of the new minimum wage,” he said.

He added that Governor Fintiri is keen on the welfare of the workers, hence the implementation of the new minimum wage even before the table from the national salaries, wages, and income commission was released.
