Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has tasked newly deployed members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to embrace Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) for development and national unity during their service year.

The governor spoke through his deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, at the swearing-in of the 1,367 Batch B Stream One Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Damare, Girei local government. The corps members were told that SAED was designed to teach them different skills and trades.

Farauta said the ceremony reflected the beginning of a transformative journey of service, leadership, self-discovery, and nation-building for the corps members.

She charged them to be guided by the values of patriotism, hard work, discipline, integrity, and selfless service.

The governor maintained that the NYSC scheme has been one of Nigeria’s most successful platforms for promoting national unity, integration, patriotism, and youth development.

She, however, urged them to utilise the skills-acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme while on camp, which, according to her, is one of the most important components of the NYSC scheme.

While encouraging them to remain ambassadors of national development and agents of positive change, by striving to leave a lasting impact through dedication, creativity, and commitment to community service.

She further assured of the government’s continuous support and interventions, the governor revealed that significant progress is being recorded in the ongoing construction of the Permanent NYSC Orientation Camp at Malkohi, Yola South Local Government Area, a testament to his administration’s commitment to providing a modern, secure, and conducive environment for the training and development of Corps Members.

The governor lauded the efforts of camp officials, security agents, and others, urging them to continue discharging their responsibilities with diligence, integrity, and a strong sense of mentorship.

In her remarks, the NYSC state coordinator, Osoroh Caroline Chinedu, commended Governor Fintiri for the ongoing transformational drive at the NYSC camp, reaffirming the NYSC’s unwavering support for the administration.   She said the orientation course seeks to prepare them physically and mentally for the service year and encouraged corps members to uphold good conduct, thereby abiding by the provisions of the NYSC bye-laws.

Chinedu, therefore, warned against indecent dressing, saying any corp member found wanting will be dealt with.

The oath of allegiance was administered to the Corps members by the state chief judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, represented by Justice Christopher Dominic Mapeo.

The highlight of the event was a presentation by the Man O’ War squad, which was met with the admiration of guests.
