The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has flagged off the state’s electric mobility initiative with a promise to procure 1,000 electric tricycles for youths across the state as part of efforts to reduce dependence on petroleum products and improve livelihoods.

Governor Fintiri made the announcement during the commissioning of the assembly plant and rollout of electric tricycles at Mahmud Ribadu Square, Jimeta.

Speaking at the event, the governor said his administration remained committed to improving the living conditions of residents, particularly youths whom he described as the backbone of society. He explained that the partnership with companies such as Sparrow Mobility Limited was aimed at addressing long-standing transportation and economic challenges in the state.

According to him, the partnership has already yielded positive results with the production of electric tricycles in the state, creating employment opportunities for young people.

Fintiri disclosed that the government would distribute the 1,000 electric tricycles to youths at subsidised rates to enhance empowerment and economic activities. He added that over 6,000 households across various local government areas had already benefited from solar energy projects initiated by the state government.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Transport Development, Wunfe Anthony, said the electric mobility initiative would reduce operational costs for tricycle operators, ease transportation challenges and contribute to economic growth in the state.

She noted that the collaboration between the Ministry of Transport Development and its private sector partners had continued to produce positive outcomes.

In his keynote address, the Group Chief Executive Officer of A4&T Company, Ayodeji Ademilua, said his team visited Adamawa in May 2025 to assess the state’s potential before deciding to partner with the government on solutions to overdependence on oil.

He described the electric tricycles as symbols of sustainability, affordability and economic growth, while commending Governor Fintiri for creating an enabling environment for investors.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Dr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, revealed that several mini-grids with a combined capacity of 35 megawatts had been established across the state, while more projects were underway.

Representatives of organised labour and state agencies also praised the governor’s leadership. The Adamawa State NLC representative, Dr. Barth Nyalas, and the General Manager of Adamawa Sunshine, Muhammad Tukur Abbo, described Fintiri as a transformative leader committed to the development of the state.

Highlights of the event included the commissioning of the electric tricycles, inspection of the company’s site at the Federal Housing Estate in Girei Local Government Area, and a visit to the Solar Energy Farm at Modibbo Adama University.
