Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State yesterday flagged off the federal government’s 3.5 megawatt installation for $600 million in the state.

During the occasion at Ambursa-Gulumbe Road in Birnin Kebbi local government area, Governor Idris commended the federal government for the gesture, which, according to him, would address the lingering shortage of electricity in rural communities through the Federal Electrification Agency (REA).

Idris said the state government would continue to partner with the federal government to benefit from the Renewed Hope Agenda initiated by President Ahmed Tinubu.

He urged Ambursa communities to monitor the project from the tempering and vandalism up to its completion.

Earlier, the managing director of the Federal Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Dr Abba Abubakar Aliyu, said the project would cover a 3-kilometre distribution network, including over 5,000 solar plants with battery capacity and inverters, as well as solar street lights.

According to him, about 31 transformers on the line will be refurbished, and 1,500 residents in Ambursa communities will benefit from the scheme.
