Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has officially become a member of ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after he registered and collected the party’s card yesterday.

The governor was registered at the Hospital Ward, Wukari Local Area of the state, by the ward chairman, Umaru Tanko.

The governor assured residents that he would transform the state, operate an all inclusive government, and provide more dividends of democracy to the people.

Kefas said a new date for his ceremonial defection to the APC will be announced.

The governor’s planned defection to APC on November 19, 2025 was suspended due to the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.

Kefas appreciated the warm welcome from the APC executives and members across the State, noting that the gesture reflects unity and cooperation within the party.

Recall that the Speaker of the Taraba Assembly, John Kizito, and 15 other members, had earlier left the PDP for the APC.

They cited the crisis within the PDP both at local and national levels, and the need to align Taraba with the centre, for the defection to the APC.

Kefas’ defection follows a pattern of high-profile exits from the PDP in recent months.

In November, Bayelsa State governor, Douye Diri, left the PDP for the APC after weeks of speculation, signalling a major political shift in the South-South.

His move followed similar defections by Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori; Akwa Ibom governor, Umo Eno; and Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah, who joined the APC earlier in the year.
