Taraba State governor, Agbu Kefas, on Saturday jetted out of Jalingo, Taraba State capital, ignoring the mass burial of 42 villagers who were killed on Friday, 25th May 2025, by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Karim-Lamido.

Kefas jetted out on Friday from Danbaba Suntai Airport at about 2:45 pm, exactly at the time security agents, hunters, vigilant groups, and youths were gathering corpses of the villagers from Munga community of Karim-Lamido local government area of the state for burial.

Residents who spoke to our correspondent blamed the government of Taraba State for ignoring them during the difficult times when most of the families from the village had been wiped out by the alleged armed Fulani herdsmen.

“We knew the plans of the Fulani against us when they started attacking and killing us since two weeks ago, the people behind the killings are known faces, the 6 Brigade Commander Nigerian Army General Kingsley Chidebere came here almost two weeks ago and engaged us with the Fulani.

“The governor also engaged our stakeholders and the Fulani at Taraba State Government House last week. These are well-known people. It was the governor who urged our people who had run away to return to their various places during the meeting at the Government House.

“We knew very well it was the plan of the Fulani to wipe out our generation and that’s why last week we conducted a press briefing when we called on the governor to visit the displaced areas and draft more security to forestall further killings.

“Now amidst the mass burial of our 42 community members, we learnt he has left the state for a reason we can’t understand, apart from the scanty security people who are always been over powered by the herdsmen, we are here alone, where is the governor who directed that we should return to our villages?” the villagers lamented.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the attack which resulted to the mass burial at Munga community in Karim-Lamido local government area of Taraba State has so far claimed no fewer than 57 lives in two weeks, displacing hundreds of persons. While the attackers destroyed houses and crops worth millions, scores are still missing at the time of filing this story.
