The Executive Secretary of Zamfara State Contributory Health Care Management Agency, ZAMCHEMA, Ilyasu Sale Ahmed, has praised Governor Dauda Lawal’s dedication to the health sector, which has contributed to reducing maternal mortality in the state by 50 per cent.
Dr. Ahmed stated that regular monthly remittances via the Finance Ministry to the Agency have decreased out-of-pocket expenses, leading to an increase in formal enrolment from 23000 to 99,585 and informal enrolment to over 100,000.
Ahmed stated that “when Governor Dauda Lawal came into power, the formal sector enrolled just about 23,000. But now we’re talking about 99,585. That’s over a 300% increase.
The same thing with the basic health care provision fund, it was also very, very low. In fact, as it is now, we have exceeded the target.
His Excellency Governor Dauda Lawal never deducted a kobo from health insurance contributions. One major challenge in the past was external interference; someone would simply instruct you to release a certain amount for unrelated reasons. Now, this Governor does not do that.
Remittance from the Ministry of Finance to ZAMCHEMA has been consistent. Governor Dauda Lawal has actually surpassed my expectations. With his support, we now have a toll-free line that was never there before,” Dr. Ahmed added.
