Governor of Enugu State Peter Mbah has approved the payment of eight-month salary arrears valued at over N467million, which the past administration owed the academic, non-academic, and casual staff of the Enugu State College of Education, Technical (ESCET), Enugu.

The approval’s breakdown is as follows: the eight-month salary arrears of 299 academic and non-academic staff of ESCET, valued at N384 million; the salary arrears of part-time lecturers, valued at N69.2m; and the salary arrears of casual staff, valued at N13.8 million. The total amounted to N467,061,600.

According to the government, this aligns with Governor Mbah’s promise to transform the state’s education sector.

This is the highest per capita and percentage of total budget sum in the country and higher than UNESCO’s recommended benchmark of 15 percent-20 percent of the total annual budget.
