Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed plans to set up an audit committee on the generation and management of public funds by the management of Sa’adu Zungur University. He said this will ensure greater accountability and transparency in the school.
While receiving the report of the Visitation Panel on the university, the governor emphasised the importance of ensuring that the institution is managed effectively and efficiently, focusing on achieving world-class standards.
He also revealed plans to ensure that the university’s governing board is strengthened to provide effective oversight and management.
LEADERSHIP reports that the Visitation Panel’s report was submitted to the governor by the panel’s chairman, Prof. Gambo Laraba Abdullahi.
Prof. Gambo explained that the panel noted that the university’s management had inherited problems spanning 12 years, which could not be solved overnight.
She opined that the panel’s report identified several areas of concern, including the need for improved accountability and transparency in managing the university’s finances.
It would be recalled that a few weeks ago, the Academic Staff Union of Universities SAZU branch accused the university’s management of shifting goalposts and foot-dragging the implementation of the
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed to address lingering issues in the university, which compelled the union to embark on strike last year. The allegation comes despite improved funding to the university by the Bauchi government.
