Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling the promise earlier made to renovate the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Bauchi council.
LEADERSHIP reports that Governor Mohammed, a former journalist himself, has repeatedly vowed to renovate and upgrade the Bauchi NUJ secretariat to provide a conducive working environment for journalists.
In what appeared to be renewed vigour to keep his promise, Governor Mohammed, while hosting journalists at an Iftaar, at Government House, said the project would be delivered this year.
He commended the support and resilience of journalists working in Bauchi. He called on them to amplify the numerous developmental strides his administration delivered to the people of Bauchi State.
“I feel extremely ashamed to concede each time the NUJ chairman reminds me about the unfulfilled renovation of Bauchi Press Center. I have renovated the NBA Secretariat.
Therefore, I will fulfil the promise made to renovate the NUJ Secretariat.
“I am a journalist under the NUJ. I have to be responsible to my professional constituency,” he said.
Bauchi NUJ Council chairperson Umar Sa’idu commended Governor Mohammed for providing a supportive environment for journalists to operate in Bauchi.
He assured the governor of the continued support of journalists in the state towards achieving the set policies of his administration.
Sa’idu called on journalists to perform their constitutional watchdog role professionally.
