Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has lauded former United States (US) president, late Jimmy Carter, for his humility, selfless service and contribution to global health.

Mutfwang stated this during the candlelight night tribute organised in honour of the late president by The Carter Centre in Jos.

The former president died on December 29, 2024 at his home in Plains Georgia surrounded by his family members at the age of 100.

The Carter Centre is a non-governmental development organisation he founded alongside his wife, Rosalynn, which began operations in Nigeria with the Guinea worm eradication programme in 1998 and other neglected tropical diseases.

Governor Mutfwang who was represented at the occasion by the Secretary to the Government of State, Ach. Samuel Jatau, lauded his contributions through the center, particularly his efforts in eradicating Guinea worm, river blindness and other neglected tropical diseases in Nigeria which have significantly improved the lives of many Nigerians.
