In a dramatic turn of events, Edo State governor Monday Okpebholo has dissociated himself from the position of the rest of governors of the South-South bloc, opposing the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Governor Okpebholo said he was neither informed nor consulted by his colleagues on their opposition to the presidential declaration.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Okpebholo, Fred Itua, on Thursday, said his principal acknowledged the right of other governors in the South-South geopolitical zone to take a position, he, however dissociated himself from any statement that opposes the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Tinubu.

“Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, understands the issues at stake.
