The beneficiaries are Special Education Centre for the Blind (School of the Blind), and the Special Centre for the Deaf and Mentally-challenged, both in Umuahia, the state capital.

The gesture, he said was in fulfillment of his promises to the centres during the 2024 children’s day celebration at Umuahia township stadium, Umuahia.

Speaking before handing over the buses, Otti underlined the commitment of his administration to ensure equal education opportunities to all irrespective of physical status.

Represented by the secretary to the state government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, he announced that fencing of the School of the Blind would soon commence as also earlier promised.

Similarly, the commissioner for education, Prof Uche Eme-Uche said the donations were significant gestures marking the first of such initiatives from the governor within one year in office.

She explained that it was because of such initiatives that the governor created the office of senior special assistant for Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) in the state.

In her response, the principal of the School of the Blind, Mrs Nnenna Benedict, described the gestures as  Otti’s show of love for PLWDs and prayed God to continue to guide and protect him.
