Cross River State governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has commissioned a N2.5bn medical facility built by a businessman and philanthropist, Mr. Thomas Etuh, in honour of his late wife, Jennifer Etuh, who passed on four years ago.
The facility is to cater to the healthcare needs of Ochon community residents in Obubra LGA of Cross River State.
Commissioning the project, on behalf of the state governor, at Ochon village, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk, lauded the Jennifer Etuh Foundation’s chairman and husband to late Jennifer, Mr. Thomas Etuh, for the initiative.
Governor Otu said that his administration was ready to partner with the hospital through the State’s Health Insurance Scheme to make the facility accessible to members of the community.
In a brief interview with the Foundation’s chairman, Mr. Etuh, he stated that the hospital was the wish of his late wife Jennifer, who was passionate about catering to people’s healthcare needs.
“In the face of adversity, Jennifer during her final moments, provided clear instructions concerning her investments, through tireless efforts of her Foundation.
“We are steadfastly realising and executing her heartfelt mission. Reflecting on the instructions bestowed by my late wife from her hospital bed, envisioning the establishment of the medical facilities and vocational centres in selected communities across the nation’s geographical zones.
“Four out of the six envisioned projects have been accomplished, commissioned and become operational within a remarkable six months interval in the last two years. It’s a tastament to God’s unwavering guidance, provision, grace and sustainance,” Etuh stated.
In his remarks, former Cross River State governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, who was in the entourage of Thomas Etuh, advised Ochon people to see the facility as thier own by inviting thier sons and daughters in the medical practice to partner with the hospital which might be handed over to the Catholic Church for management.
Also, a cleric, who is the vice chairman of Board of Trustees of the facility, Pastor Sarah Omakwu, described late Jennifer as light to the people in need.
