Cross River State governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has kicked off a city walk in Calabar as part of the activities lined up for the July 30, 2026 Security Summit themed “Unite Against Terror.”

Otu who was represented by his senior special adviser on Security Affairs, Maj-Gen. Okoi Obono (rtd), said the walk was a prelude to the summit and to create public awareness on the need for collective action against terrorism and other security threats.

While flagging off the exerciseyesterday at Millennium Park, Calabar, the governor reiterated the administration’s zero-tolerance policy for insecurity. “One of the policy thrusts in terms of security is zero-tolerance.

“And those of us who have been given that responsibility, it may leak into governor Otu’s security mantra, which is zero-tolerance,” he said, adding that the impact of the policy is evident as “every Cross Riverian is sleeping with his two eyes closed.”

Otu explained that even though the state has not witnessed terrorism, the government has decided to be proactive rather than reactive.

“This city walk is aimed at creating awareness that even though God’s people have not witnessed terrorism, we don’t need to wait until he knocks on our doors.

“We need to be very proactive. So it is for that purpose His Excellency gave approval for this event,” he stated.

Gov. Otu further called for unity and citizen support for security agencies, stressing that development thrives only in a secure environment.

“When there is insecurity, there is no development. So we must fight, we must unite, we must support the security agencies to do their job. Security agencies are not spirits. They rely on you for information,” he said.

Declaring the walk open, Otu urged residents to imbibe the culture of information sharing. “I want to urge you all to play your part. They say, if you see something, say something.

“As we flag off today, preparatory to the security summit that is coming up in two days time, I want to urge you to spread the message,” he said,
