Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has inaugurated the Governing Council of the Cross River State College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Obubra.
The governor charged the council members to drive innovation, research, and ethical governance to advance agricultural education and food security in the state.
At the inauguration ceremony, Governor Otu emphasised the importance of agriculture in the state’s economy, describing it as the backbone of Cross River’s economy and a key driver of employment, industrialisation, and poverty reduction.
He urged the council to formulate strategic policies to enhance academic excellence and foster research-driven solutions in agriculture.
The governor also tasked the council to identify the institution’s infrastructural needs and ensure financial transparency and community harmony in their administration.
He emphasised the need for cordial relations between the college and its host community, urging proactive engagement and patronage of local services.
In response, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Gertrude Njar, expressed gratitude to the governor for the appointment and assured him of their commitment to advancing the institution’s goals.
She highlighted the college’s potential in agro-based ventures and environmental sustainability and appealed for urgent intervention to address the institution’s key infrastructural and logistical challenges.
The governing council must align with the administration’s ethical governance principles and agricultural development vision.
