Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has called on Cross Riverians to reflect deeply on the selfless life of Jesus Christ, who laid down his life for the redemption of mankind.
He also congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who he described as courageous and fearless leader on his 72nd birthday.
In his Easter message, the governor said it was only through selflessness and sacrifice that Cross River State and indeed, Nigeria can attain the desired economic progress.
In a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Mr Linus Obogo, Otu said, “Today represents a very significant moment in our lives as Christians. Significant in the sense that it is sobering that someone, whom no fault was found in him, sacrificed his life on the cross that we may live.
“His death on the cross and resurrection remind us all about selflessness, the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, love and compassion over hate.
These were the cardinal planks of Christ’s teachings before his crucifixion.”
The governor, who enjoined Christian faithful to imbibe the virtues of peace, love, sacrifice and forgiveness, stressed that it was only these lofty ideals that could help in building a virile, cohesive and progressive Cross River.”
To Tinubu, the governor said he is on a mission to change the socio-economic landscape of Nigeria.
In his goodwill message, Otu said the president is a rare gift, whom God has brought at such a critical time as now to get the country out of the labyrinth.
While wishing Tinubu God’s protection, good health and long life, Governor Otu said, “I want to wish you, Mr. President, a special birthday as you clock 72 years today. You’re one of the most extraordinary and inspirational leaders of our time. Indeed, you are a rare gift to our country, Nigeria.”
