Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has extended his deepest sympathies to the governments and people of Niger and Kano states following two heartbreaking incidents a severe flood in Mokwa and a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of 22 young athletes from Kano.
Governor Radda described the flood, which submerged large parts of Mokwa’s commercial district after intense rainfall, as a deeply distressing natural disaster.
He acknowledged the hardship and suffering it has brought to the affected communities.
“We are profoundly saddened by the news of the flood in Mokwa,” the Governor said.
“Our hearts go out to all those impacted by this unfortunate event. We stand with them in solidarity during this difficult time.”
In a separate condolence message, Governor Radda expressed grief over the fatal accident involving Kano athletes returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.
He referred to the incident as a national tragedy that has left the entire country in mourning.
“The loss of these young, promising athletes is not only painful for their families and communities but also a huge blow to Nigeria’s sporting future,” he stated. “They were the pride of Kano State and the hope of a brighter tomorrow for our nation.”
Governor Radda emphasised the importance of national unity in the face of shared tragedies and called for improved safety measures and emergency preparedness across the country, especially in northern Nigeria, where flooding is becoming increasingly common.
“As we navigate through these difficult times, let us remember the importance of preparedness, resilience, and collective support,” he urged.
“Katsina State stands shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters in Niger and Kano.”
He concluded by offering prayers for the souls of the departed, asking Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
