Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Nasarawa State, Comrade Yusuf Iya said civil servants and retirees in the state are not owned a dime by Governor Abdullahi Sule as the governor has cleared the N720 million salary and pension arrears owed the workers.
He disclosed this during a press conference held at the Labour house in Lafia yesterday
Iya said the present administration inherited a whooping N720 million which was an arrears of salaries and pension of civil servants at both state and local government.
The NLC chairman was reacting to the report in some online platform with heading “Nasarawa State owned six to eight months’ salary and pension arrears” an information gathered from sub-national salary bureau, a survey gathered by Budgit, a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
According to him, “that report is malicious, misleading, that Nasarawa State is amongst the eight states of the federation, in the report there is no primary and secondary data.”
He said before the coming of Sule in 2019, local government staff and retirees are paid in percent, but today is history because the governor has normalised the pending arrears including payment of N216,000,900 as well the payment of engaged teachers into the wage bill.
Iya averred that the sum of N216 million was settled for the implementation of promotion from 2014 to date courtesy Governor Sule.
