Kano State Governor, Kabir Yusuf, has appointed celebrated Nigerian footballer, Ahmed Musa, as the new General Manager of Kano Pillars Football Club.
The appointment, announced Friday in a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, is part of a broader effort to reposition the club ahead of the new Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
According to the statement, the decision followed wide consultations with stakeholders, after the expiration of the board’s one-year tenure, during which the team finished ninth on the league table.
Musa, who began his professional career with Kano Pillars and went on to captain the Super Eagles and feature in FIFA World Cups, is expected to bring international experience and strong leadership to the club’s management.
“This strategic move is expected to leverage his wealth of experience and leadership to reposition the club as a formidable contender in the league,” the statement read.
Governor Yusuf also approved the reconstitution of the management board of the club, retaining most members with a few changes targeted at strengthening performance.
The newly constituted management board has Ali Muhammad Umar (Nayara) as Chairman.
It has Salisu Mohammed Kosawa, Yusuf Danladi, Andy Cole, Idris Malikawa Garu, Nasiru Bello, Muhammad Ibrahim (Hassan West), Abdulkarim Audi Chara, Muhammad Danjuma Gwarzo, and Mustapha Usman Darma as members.
Others include Umar Dankura, Ahmad Musbahu, Gambo Salisu Shuaibu Kura, Rabiu Abdullahi, Aminu Ma’alesh, and Safiyanu Abdu as members.
The statement named Abubakar Isah Dandago Yamalash and Ismail Abba Tangalash as Media Directors I and II, respectively.
Governor Yusuf expressed confidence that the new leadership will build on the club’s achievements and deliver improved results in the coming season.
