Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has constituted an 11-member investigative panel to probe the alleged sale of the Nigerian Meat and Allied Products (NIMAP) Abattoir by former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration.

While inaugurating the committee on Wednesday at the cabinet office, Secretary to the State Government Umar Faruq, said the multi-billion naira facility, located at Chalawa Industrial Area, was built initially during Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s tenure and designed to generate revenue and create employment opportunities.

Faruq emphasised that the investigation must hold the previous administration accountable and protect critical state assets from illegal disposal for personal gain.

The panel will be chaired by former Anti-Corruption Agency Chairman Barrister Muhuyi Magagi Rimin-Gado, whose responsibilities include investigating the sale’s circumstances, reviewing all transaction documents and agreements, assessing compliance with relevant laws and due process.

They are also expected to determine individual and organisational culpability, recover lost public funds and assets, and recommend legal and disciplinary actions.

Other committee members include Humanitarian Affairs Commissioner Adamu Kibiya, Special Adviser Aminu Hussain, and several legal practitioners.

In his remarks, Rimin-Gado assured the investigation would be conducted “without fear or favour,” promising diligent and impartial proceedings.

Meanwhile, the committee has been given a three-week deadline to submit its findings and recommendations to the state government.
