The senior special assistant to Kano State Governor on Social Media, Salisu Yahaya-Hotoro, has refuted a claim by the camp of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, that the former governor didn’t benefit from the incumbent Kano State government.
He challenged the former governor’s camp to come clean on those handling major government programmes and contracts.
He stated this in reaction to a claim that Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration has not benefited the former governor.
A former special adviser to the governor on political matters, Sunusi Surajo, had reportedly alleged that Governor Yusuf had not awarded contracts or extended any form of government patronage to Kwankwaso since the inception of the administration.
But speaking in an interview with an online platform, Arewa Updates, the SSA described the claim as false, misleading and contrary to available facts.
He insisted that Kwankwaso and some of his associates were still benefiting from the Yusuf administration in key sectors, including Hajj operations, foreign scholarship programmes and major contracts.
“I don’t think Jagora Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso told Sunusi Surajo that he is benefiting from this government,” Hotoro said, urging him to inquire into those currently managing affairs at the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board.
He alleged that about 30 Hajj seats were allocated annually to Kwankwaso since the beginning of the Yusuf administration, and questioned who the beneficiaries were and how the slots were being utilised.
The governor’s aide also raised concerns over the foreign scholarship scheme under the Ministry of Higher Education, demanding clarity on who oversees the selection and sponsorship of students abroad and how many beneficiaries are taken out of the approved 1,001 slots.
According to him, while the state government provides the funding, contractors reportedly handle admission processes, visa procurement, air tickets and continued welfare of the students overseas.
Hotoro further queried contracts under the Ministry of Water Resources, including diesel supply, procurement of heavy equipment worth billions of naira allegedly yet to be installed, and purchase of alum and other chemicals for water treatment.
He warned that continued misinformation could force the government to release details and evidence to counter the claims.
