Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum yesterday moved to Pulka in Gwoza local government area to get first-hand information about the Ngoshe attack and provide palliatives for residents that were displaced after the attack.
Ngoshe and Pulka are among the communities the state government resettled after the areas were liberated from the terrorists by the Nigerian military.
The governor went to Ngoshe due to the occupation of the community by the terrorists after Tuesday’s attack, as residents fled from Ngoshe to Pulka.
Meanwhile, Troops of Operation Hadin Kai Joint Taskforce Friday morning successfully repelled terrorists attempts to overrun troops’ locations in Konduga, Marte, Jakana and Mainok areas of Borno State.
While the terrorists in a video circulating online claimed that they were still in Ngoshe and vowed to occupy the community until Eid-el-Fitr in 12 days to come, the troops of OPHK in conjunction with the air component neutralised several terrorist commanders, their leaders and several fighters.
A statement issued to journalists in Maiduguri by the media information officer OPHK, Lt Col Sani Uba, said the desperate attacks, launched between approximately 22:30hrs till 03:00 hours on Friday were met with overwhelming resistance from troops who firmly held their defensive positions despite the intensity of the assaults.
Uba said in a well-coordinated response, troops executed simultaneous flanking manoeuvres alongside reinforcement teams drawn from Sectors 1 and 2, decisively routing the attacking terrorists and forcing them into disorganised withdrawals.
He said in some isolated instances where sections of the defensive perimeter were temporarily breached, troops swiftly counter-attacked and fully regained control of their positions.
The OPHK media information officer said during the fierce engagements, several terrorist leaders, including key their leaders were neutralised while a number of insurgent fighters were eliminated during the counter-offensive.
“Regrettably, a number of brave soldiers paid the supreme price in the line of duty, including a gallant officer who fought courageously from the front while leading his troops against the attackers. Their sacrifice reflects the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to defending the nation and protecting innocent citizens.
“The failed attacks clearly underscore the increasing desperation of terrorist elements under sustained operational pressure across the theatre. Operation HADIN KAI remains firmly in control of the battlespace,” the statement further read.
