The Yobe State secretary to the State Government Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali said governor Mai Mala Buni remained committed to ensuring the lingering water scarcity bedeviling Damaturu the state capital due to the destruction of a 330KV electricity transmission line mask by vandals was brought to an end in the shortest possible time.
Wali who was speaking on the water scarcity said the governor has given a matching order to all relevant government officials to work towards ending the problem in Damaturu and its environs.
The SSG stated that immediately after the incident sermon an emergency meeting with the management of ministry of water resources and that of water corporation with a view to identify the problem for solution.
“His Excellency the Executive Governor of Yobe State Hon Mai Mala Buni was deeply concerned with the perennial shortage of water in Damaturu because immediately after the unfortunate incident, he instantly directed for an emergency meeting with the line MDAs for solutions.
“After identifying the problems which includes needs for additional diesels for all government boreholes in Damaturu and its environs, His Excellency instantly directed for the upward review of the diesel supply from 40, 000 litres to 60,000 monthly to the water which has
given them the opportunity to power more boreholes to improve the supply of Water to Damaturu community.
“You know a generating set cannot stand to work for a period of 24 hours without break and as such the number of service hours was increased from four or five hours to 9 hours daily.
The prolonged acute shortage of water in the city and water supply to Damaturu would be addressed as directed by Governor Mai Mala Buni,” Wali assured.
The SSG said the government has also constituted a committee that went round the state capital to ascertain the performance of public boreholes including diesel supply among others.
He further said his office has been liaising with the state water Corporation in carrying out His Excellency’s matching directive especially in the areas of technical and financial support to the water Corporation.
“With this development, residents of Damaturu and its environs facing water scarcity are set to see some relief as water supply will improve significantly Insha Allah.”
Wali used the forum and assured the people of Yobe State that governor Buni remained committed to addressing not only Damaturu water problem but all other challenges bedeviling the entire state.
“His Excellency is committed to addressing most of the problems, challenges bedeviling people across the state, this I can assure you,” he added.
