Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has granted pardon to 115 inmates serving various jail terms across correctional centres in the state as part of programme of activities lined up for the May 29 inauguration.

Buni granted the pardon following the submission of reports by the State Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy headed by the former Attorney General and the current Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Legal Matters, Barrister Saleh Samanja.

While receiving the reports yesterday at the Government House, Gov. Buni expressed hope that the freed prisoners have learnt their lessons and would avoid going back to their bad ways that would land them in jail.

Governor Buni, who commended the committee for a job well done, also called on public spirited individuals to follow suit towards building a better society.

The chairman of the committee, Barrister Samanja said the committee had visited correctional centers in Potiskum, Gashu’a and Nguru and came up with a list of inmates that are mostly with minor offences and who are serving lesser jail terms, as well as those jailed with option of fine, among others.
