Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has charged graduates of the state university in Bokkos to be good ambassadors of the institution and architects of Nigeria’s future.
Mutfwang, who is the visitor to the university, spoke at the 8th and 9th combined convocation ceremony yesterday.
The governor told them, “Go forth with courage, lead with integrity, innovate with purpose, serve with compassion remember that the future is not something you inherit, it is something you build.”
He maintained that on assumption of office, his administration made a deliberate decision to restore Plateau State as a centre of academic excellence.
Mutfwang said the institutions must not merely award degrees but serve as vibrant hubs of research, innovation, entrepreneurship and global relevance.
“At Plateau State University, this commitment has been strategic and impactful. We have invested nearly N1 billion in programmes accreditation to ensure that courses meet both national and international standards.
“We funded the establishment of the Faculty of Law and supported the take-off of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences,” he said.
He disclosed that these investments go beyond infrastructure, adding that they reflect their determination to strengthen healthcare delivery by training competent professionals who would advance medical research and safeguard the well-being of our people.
The pro-chancellor and chairman of the 6th Governing Council, Prof Barnabas Qurix said he believed that beyond the historical significance of a convention ceremony, tributes and recognitions of the contributions of individuals who had shaped the destiny of the university had given it a pedestal to dispense knowledge, skills and character.
The vice chancellor, Prof Shedrack Best in his remarks said 2, 485 students were convocating while 22 graduated with first-class honours.
