Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has expressed profound grief over the death of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, describing it as a painful loss to both the state and the nation.

In a condolence message issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojele, the governor paid glowing tribute to the late senior officer, whom he described as a proud son of Edo who died in active service to Nigeria.

Okpebholo noted that Braimah exemplified courage, discipline, and an unwavering sense of duty, adding that he remained committed to the peace, unity, and security of the country until his final moments.

He further described the fallen general as a symbol of sacrifice and patriotism, stressing that his life and service reflect the core values upon which the nation depends.

“This loss is not only felt by the Nigerian Army, but also by Edo State and the country at large. While we mourn, we are equally proud of the life he lived and the service he rendered,” the governor said.

He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and all those affected by the loss, urging them to find solace in the enduring legacy of the late officer.

Okpebholo also prayed for the peaceful repose of Braimah’s soul and strength for those he left behind, adding, “Rest on, brave son of Edo State. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

Brigadier General Braimah was reportedly among those killed during a late Wednesday attack on a military base in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State. The assault, which targeted the 29 Task Force Brigade of Operation Hadin Kai, was said to have been carried out by heavily armed insurgents.

Residents disclosed that the attackers overran the base for hours, destroying parts of the facility and setting military vehicles ablaze.

The chairman of Kaga Local Government Area, Zanna Ajimi, while speaking with journalists, confirmed that the Brigade Commander, Brigadier-General Braimah, was among the casualties.
