Nigeria legislature has lost one of its brightest brains and committed advocates with the passing of Senator Godiya Akwashiki, Nasarawa Governor Abdullahi Sule has said.

In a condolence message, Governor Sule noted that the late lawmaker left behind a legacy of honour and leadership.

The late senator died in an Indian hospital on Wednesday after a protracted illness.

He represented Nasarawa North at the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

In a message yesterday, the governor said though the late legislator had been ill, he was shocked to receive the news of his death.

He said the late Akwashiki was a grassroots politician with deep concern for the progress and development of his constituency.

“It is with deep sadness and a profound sense of loss that I receive the news of the passing of distinguished senator Godiya Akwashiki, Matawallen Eggon. Death has again robbed us of an illustrious son. Senator Akwashiki was an accomplished public servant, courageous legislator and a devoted son of Eggon land.

“His humility, commitment and service to his people was remarkable. His journey as a politician was a demonstration of deep connection with the common man.  The death of the distinguished senator is painful not only to his family, the Eggon nation and the people of Nasarawa North but to our entire state and the Nigerian legislature.

“We shall continue to cherish his legacy of honour, leadership, and steadfast commitment to the progress of our dear state.
