Gombe State governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has expressed sadness over the death of Prof. Garba Kalayi Difa, a renowned medical expert and senior consultant at the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe.
Difa, who died during a brief illness, was respected for his contributions to medical education and healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
He was the pioneer provost of the College of Medical Sciences at Gombe State University, where he played a pivotal role in laying the foundation for quality medical training in the state.
The governor’s media aide, Isma’il Uba Misilli, issued a press statement on Tuesday. In it, he said Governor Yahaya, in a condolence message he personally signed, described the late professor as a brilliant surgeon, mentor, and role model.
“Professor Garba Kalayi Difa was a brilliant surgeon, mentor and role model to many in the medical profession. His contributions have left an indelible mark on the hearts of his students, colleagues, and the medical community.
“On behalf of the government and people of Gombe State, the Governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, his colleagues at the Federal Teaching Hospital, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Gombe Chapter, and the Yamaltu Deba community where the late professor hailed from,” the statement partly read. The Governor prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive Professor Difa’s shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
