Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a fresh round of appointments and promotions with immediate effect.

The appointments were announced in a statement issued on Monday morning by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle has been appointed Acting Director-General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board. Matawalle, who previously served in a similar capacity, is a retired permanent secretary and former executive secretary of the board.

“Matawalle is a seasoned administrator who rose from the position of Assistant Secretary to Permanent Secretary and retired in 2014 after serving eight years in that capacity,” the statement said, noting that he “excelled in the management of Hajj operations for years.”

The governor also approved the promotion of Yusuf Mukhtar to the rank of Permanent Secretary.

In another development, Barrister Rahama Malam Alhaji was appointed Provost of the Kano State Anti-Corruption Institute. She was described as “a highly accomplished legal professional with over seven years of experience in litigation, corporate law, electricity law, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution.”

The statement noted that Barrister Rahama has worked in both private and public institutions, including the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), and served as Head of the School of Law at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN). It added that she holds a Master’s of Laws (LLM) degree in International Law and pioneered initiatives such as the establishment of a Law Clinic and the Student Bar Association.

Governor Yusuf also approved the promotion of veteran Kannywood actress Aina’u Ade from Special Assistant to Senior Special Assistant on Kannywood Affairs, citing her “outstanding performance” in her previous role.

The statement said the appointments and promotions aligned with the administration’s commitment to strengthening governance and ensuring effective management of public institutions.

Governor Yusuf urged the newly appointed and promoted officials to justify the confidence reposed in them through hard work, transparency and loyalty to the ‘Kano First’ Agenda.
