Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has sacked his Political Adviser, Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso, and approved the appointment of Mustapha Bakwana as his replacement.

The development was disclosed by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, in a post shared on his Facebook page on Saturday.

“Breaking: Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf fires his Political Adviser Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso, replaces him with Mustapha Bakwana
Details later,” Bature wrote.

The decision comes amid ongoing political realignments in the state following Governor Yusuf’s recent defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), a move that has continued to attract reactions across Kano’s political landscape.

LEADERSHIP reports Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso, a close ally of the former Kano State governor and Kwankwasiyya leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, had earlier announced his resignation from the position.
He was among the first political appointees to resign after Governor Yusuf formally exited the NNPP. In a video message released late Friday, Kwankwaso said his resignation was informed by loyalty to the ideology and leadership of the Kwankwasiyya movement led by Senator Kwankwaso.

He also disclosed that attempts to formally submit his resignation letter were unsuccessful, alleging that officials at the Office of the Secretary to the State Government declined to receive it.

“They told me they were not authorised to receive my resignation letter. That was why I decided to officially inform the public through social media,” he said.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed Political Adviser, Mustapha Bakwana, is a former political adviser to former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Bakwana had dumped Ganduje and the All Progressives Congress (APC) a few months ago to join the NNPP under the Kwankwasiyya political movement.
