Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Yusuf is to present a N1 trillion budget for the 2026 financial year, the largest by any northern Nigerian state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued yesterday by the director general, media and publicity, Government House, Sanusi Bature.

According to the statement, the governor disclosed this while declaring open the second Special Executive Council meeting convened to review and finalise the 2026 budget proposals ahead of its submission to the state House of Assembly next week.

He said the unprecedented budget size reflected his administration’s determination to consolidate ongoing infrastructure expansion, urban renewal initiatives and broader socio-economic reforms across the state.

He quoted the governor as saying that the growth in the proposed budget was driven by remarkable improvements in internally generated revenue and the successful plugging of financial leakages within government operations.

“Our administration has strengthened internal revenue mechanisms and sealed leakages which now allow us to plan boldly for transformative projects in 2026,” Yusuf said.

He noted that the 2026 fiscal plan would prioritise housing development, agriculture, education, healthcare and support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). These sectors, he said, are central to stimulating economic growth and improving livelihoods across Kano.

Governor Yusuf assured that once finalised, the budget would be transmitted to the state legislature for consideration and approval.

He reiterated his government’s commitment to transparency, fiscal discipline and efficient resource allocation to ensure that all sectors receive adequate support to enhance service delivery.
