Former governorship candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, has emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship flag bearer ahead of the 2027 general elections in Delta State.

Two aspirants contested the governorship ticket: Chief Great Ogboru and Dr Emmanuel Unuafe.

The concluded primaries in Delta State, which covered the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and governorship positions, were conducted across the state and concluded at the ADC State Secretariat in Asaba.

Chairman of the ADC Primary Election Committee, Prof. Patrick Sambo Williams, announced the results and commended party members, delegates, and aspirants for what he described as a peaceful and orderly process.

He said the party ensured all aspirants were given equal opportunities to participate in the primaries in line with its constitution and electoral guidelines.

Announcing the result, Williams disclosed that Ogboru polled 38,151 votes to defeat Unuafe, who scored 1,182 votes.

“Having scored the highest number of valid votes cast in the primary election, Chief Great Ogboru is hereby declared the winner of the ADC governorship primary election,” he said.

Williams noted that the exercise reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and fairness.

He added that the successful completion of the primaries showed that the ADC remained united and prepared for the 2027 elections in Delta State.

The committee chairman urged all aspirants and party supporters to close ranks and work together for the progress of the party ahead of the governorship poll.

According to him, political contests should not divide members, stressing that the collective interest of the party remained more important than individual ambitions.

He also appreciated members of the election committee, security agencies, delegates, and party faithful for contributing to the peaceful conduct of the primaries.

Following the announcement, supporters of Ogboru erupted in celebration at the party secretariat, expressing optimism that the ADC would emerge as a strong force in the 2027 governorship election in the state.
