Towards a sustainable energy future, Nigeria’s Energy Commission has partnered with Noretek Energy to launch a groundbreaking 20,000 tons per annum Green Hydrogen project.
This pilot project to be located in Kogi State, is set to revolutionize the country’s energy landscape.
The project was unveiled at a meeting chaired by the Director-General of the Energy Commission, Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, with Noretek Energy’s Managing Director/CEO, Mr Edward Traore, and Executive Director, Nuhu Ajanah, in Abuja on Thursday.
A statement by Executive Director, Corporate Alliance and Marketing, Noretek Energy Limited, Mr Nuhu Ajanah, said the meeting also featured a presentation by Project Consultant, Mr. Norbert Shialsuk, highlighting the project’s potential to transform Nigeria’s energy sector.
He said, “Nigeria’s green hydrogen ambitions align with its broader energy transition goals, as outlined in the country’s Energy Transition Plan (ETP). The plan aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060, with hydrogen playing a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the industrial and transportation sector.”
“The 20,000 tons per annum Green Hydrogen project is a significant step towards realizing this vision. By leveraging renewable energy sources and innovative technologies, Nigeria can reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, create new economic opportunities, and contribute to a more sustainable global energy future.”
