Abia State House of Assembly member representing Obingwa West constituency, Erondu Uchenna-Erondu has said green skills are critical to the economic development of Nigeria.
Uchenna-Erondu stated this while speaking to LEADERSHIP in Umuahia, the state capital, yesterday, against the backdrop of the commemoration of 2023 International Youth Day celebration.
“The shift towards an environmentally sustainable and climate-friendly world is critical not only for responding to the global climate crisis but also for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,” he said.
The chairman of the House committee on public service matters described the theme of the celebration: “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World’ as necessary and timely for the youths.
Explaining that the skills gap is an obstacle for them to participate fully in the global shift towards green economy, the legislator added that now is the time for them to join the move.
Uchenna-Erondu, urged the youths to take advantage of the available opportunities in the programme to equip themselves for the Green Transition 2030 as forecasted by the United Nations.
Furthermore, he advised them to be patriotic, dedicated, law-abiding and shun all forms of social vices, maintaining that upskilling young people is cardinal towards nation building.
