A civil society organisation (CSO), Creek to Creek Movement, wants Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited to remain the sole contractor for pipeline protection in the Niger Delta region.
It’s position came amid renewed clamour from aggrieved groups and individuals for the decentralization of the contract.
The organisation is dedicated to environmental awareness, sustainability and due process in the oil and gas sector.
In September 2022, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) awarded the contract for pipeline surveillance to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), a company linked to Government Tompolo.
The N4 billion per month contract, covered Delta, Ondo, Imo and Rivers and some parts of Bayelsa.
Reacting to the development yesterday, the group’s conveners, Comrade Jefe Abido, Comrade Ajibade Smith, Comrade Chima Samuel Obririnank, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to continue with the contract and described those behind the unpopular move as charlatans who are unduly obsessed sabotaging the oil and gas sector for personal gains.
According to them, it is the enemies of the current administration and by extension Nigeria that are scheming to plunge the oil-rich region into another era of illegal oil bunkering, violence and bloodshed to advance their selfish agenda.
They said to overlook the good work Tantita Security Servics is doing and concentrate on the value of the contract is nothing but envy, jealous and plain hatred for the peace and security in the creeks which has resulted to seamless oil exploration and refining.
In a press statement issued in Abuja, the conveners said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must as a matter of national security and economic growth sustain this contract. Even though it was an inherited project, its continuity will help to sustain the peace and calm currently recorded in the Niger Delta region.
“With the high inflow of foreign investments into the Niger Delta, it is clear that Tantita Security Services has restored investor confidence with many jobs created and local content enhanced.
Those calling for the termination of the pipeline surveillance contract are nothing but saboteurs and must be ignored.
“Our findings indicate that there has been a reduction in pipeline vandalism and pollution which has made it possible for farmers and fishermen to thrive with the efforts of communities and Tantita operations. As the leading voice of the Niger Delta region, we insist that the government should continue the Tantita surveillance contract.’
The group called on Nigerians to stand solidly behind President Tinubu and Tantita Security Services for “sustained security, increased production output and prosperity of the Nigerian economy for all her.”
